Why do People Migrate to a Hill State? An Analysis of Reasons of In-migration in Himachal Pradesh
This research paper is an attempt to study the reasons of in-migration in a hill state taking Himachal Pradesh as the case study. Census data for the census years 1991 and 2001 have been analysed to find out the reasons associated with in-migration in the state. An effort has also been made to find the variation of reasons of migration amongst males and females. It has been found that male migration was driven by economic factors whereas familial/social factors were prime determinants for relocation of females.
