An observational study to quantify the measure of Anjali Pramana - A pilot study
Abstract
‘Anjali’ is the unit described in Ayurveda text which denotes the specific quantity or volume of the liquids. There are number of Sharira Bhava which exist in liquid state. In the classic texts of Ayurveda viz. Charaka Samhita the normal quantity of these Drava Sharira-Bhava is mentioned in terms of Anjali. Ayurvedic terminologies should be expressed in universal system of units for better understanding. In this pilot study the Anjali Pramana of 30 respondents of the age group between 25 years to 30 years were recorded. The mean of the readings for men & women was obtained. The measure of one Anjali for a woman is 100 ml & for a man it is 135 ml.
