Scientific Interpretation of Respiratory System Elucidated in Ayurveda

Abstract

With root elimination is the treatment principle followed to cure each and every disease. These roots are entitled as srotas in Ayurveda and to follow this path physician must keep the knowledge about the srotas related to the disease. Respiratory ailments have been correlated with the pranavaha srotas in Ayurveda. The pranavaha srotas have been studied and discussed at first revealing its vitality and significance. Pranavaha srotas are named so for carrying Prana within them, where prana refers to prana vayu. These channels stand with gravity because they are related not only with respiratory system but also with the alimentary tract, cardiovascular and nervous systems. Before understanding the pathology and curing the ailments of Pranavaha srotas, one must know the concept about anatomy and physiology of these channels. Thus, this article laid emphasis on unveiling the concept of pranavaha srotas through opinions of different ancient scholars. Besides this, the concept of its two mula has been explored, along with symptoms of vitiation of these channels and their correlation with various systems.
