Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Setback Building with Open ground storey

Abstract

In India, it is common practice to construct residential low rise buildings in which ground storey kept open for parking facility. It has been proven that this kind of buildings on sloping ground are highly vulnerable during earthquake from past experience of earthquakes in northeast India. When building possess vertical mass irregularity, there may be disastrous effect on building. The study mainly focuses on performance evaluation of open ground G+4 setback building located on sloping ground and mitigation of failure caused by soft storey effect. In this paper attempt has made to analyze the behavior of plan irregular open ground storey buildings using linear static and dynamic analysis such as Equivalent static method and Response spectrum method as per IS 1893:2016 (Part-I) respectively. Based on results it has been concluded that Reinforced concrete filled steel tube composite columns can be used in open ground storey to minimize the effect of irregularities present in setback building resting on sloping ground.
