Fire Wood Collection: A Time Consuming and Risky Work In the Forest-Fringe Area of Garumara and Jaldapara National Park, Duars, West Bengal, India

Fire-wood collection is a part of daily work schedule of rural women live in forest-fringe area of Garumara and Jaldapara national park of Duars. But nowadays this activity becomes risky and time consuming for the women due to many reasons. As a result they give less time for performing other social responsibility. They invest more time for fuel-wood collection than the past. With increasing human pressure on forest, the availability of fire wood materials is decreasing at the edge of the forest. This situation force them to go for long distance in the interior of deep forest which in turn create a problem of being attack by wild animals. They go for fire-wood collection with fear in everyday life. Women and girls both are engaged her in this activity for their poor socio-economic situation. They both carry more burdens in order to minimize their family burdens. There is no other safe option for them instead of fire-wood collection, which makes their life secure and safe.
