Wild Edible Medicinal Vegetable of Bodos of Baksa District, BTAD (Assam)

             Baksa district is an important district of BTAD (Assam). It is one of the 27th districts in Assam in North Eastern India which is dominated by tribal communities as Bodo, Garo, Rabha etc. The Bodos are the indigenous tribal group of Baksa district. The present study deals with the identification, exploration and documentation of the wild edible medicinal vegetables by the Bodos of Baksa district in BTAD (Assam). A total of 44 wild edible medicinal vegetables plants are surveyed from different study areas. The different kinds of medicinal plants are nature gifted. These medicinal vegetables plant’s parts as leaves, stems, fruits, flowers, tender shoots etc. are consumed either cooked or raw. These wild vegetables are main sources of some vitamins, calcium, minerals protein etc. The Bodos consumed these natural medicinal vegetables to maintain their health balance in their day today life. The Bodos have old traditions or habits consuming collecting various kinds of wild vegetables from their surrounding jungles. They consumed various kinds of wild medicinal plants from their immemorial days. In this paper along with local names of the medicinal plants, the scientific names and family and edible parts used and methods of preparation or cooking of the wild edible medicinal plants and medicinal values are presented. The data are were collected with the help of local people having knowledge of wild vegetables, traditional values and survey from the local people.
